Pro Bono Attorney

Shook, Hardy & Bacon LLP is seeking an attorney to join our pro bono legal team to help lead our firm’s civil rights and racial justice practice, including 1983 prisoner’s rights and abuse of force cases. The attorney will be expected to be the primary lawyer on a docket of civil rights pro bono matters and help guide lawyers throughout the firm generally on this subject matter; help oversee and administer the firm’s civil rights docket (e.g., maintain status updates, address staffing needs, track data); help promote participation in those cases within the firm; lead and coordinate relevant trainings; help screen new potential matters; work with marketing and other administrative groups within the firm as needed; and more. This position would oversee a critical portion of Shook’s pro bono efforts, which reflect the firm’s dedication to representing clients in matters as diverse in nature and scope as the attorneys who handle them. Through our program, we provide pro bono legal services to a wide array of clients, including from immigrants, foster care children, veterans, prisoners, tenants, domestic violence survivors, small business owners and more. This position will report to our Director of Pro Bono, and desired candidates will have a minimum of 5 years of experience with racial justice and civil rights matters. This opportunity is available in the following Shook office locations: Chicago, Houston, Kansas City, Miami, Philadelphia, and Washington, D.C. The candidate must be licensed to practice in the state where the office resides. Salary and title will depend upon experience, with title being either Counsel or Senior Counsel.
