Research & Development Tax Credit Specialist

Howard & Howard, a leading national business law firm celebrating its 150th year, is currently seeking a Research & Development Tax Credit Specialist. The Research & Development (R&D) Tax Credit Specialist is responsible for providing R&D tax credit/deduction consulting services to clients in a wide range of industries. In connection with assisting clients in identifying and claiming federal and state R&D tax credits and deductions, you will also assist in new business development, perform tax research and analysis on technical issues, complete detailed models and calculations, provide Internal Revenue Service (IRS) audit support, and support the R&D team in developing best practices. Our work is project-based and requires us to spend time onsite at client facilities to execute project engagements.
 
Duties and Responsibilities

Provide R&D tax credit/deduction consulting services to clients in a wide range of industries.
Prepare and develop content for proposals and client presentations/meetings.
Develop project work plans and ensure project deliverables are met in a timely fashion.
Conduct R&D interviews with accounting and engineering/technical personnel.
Develop practical and effective approaches to solving complex client issues.
Gather, format, and analyze large volumes of accounting cost data, and create complex calculation databases using Microsoft® Excel and/or Microsoft® Access.
Analyze expenses for qualification under IRC Section 174 and Section 41.
Prepare and review R&D credit calculations and deliverables.
Perform tax research, interpret tax laws, and prepare memorandum on various aspects of U.S. tax matters
Develop and sustain excellent client relationships, and proactively identify opportunities to cross-sell to existing clients.
Work with Federal Income Tax colleagues, as well as with International Tax colleagues, to assist on other tax matters where needed.
Perform other duties as assigned. 

Qualifications

2-5 years of federal tax compliance experience and/or R&D tax consulting experience 
Juris Doctor is required
Preferred: Licensed CPA, Enrolled Agent, or Advanced degree such as MST, or LLM
Strong project management and organizational skills; Demonstrated effective research, and verbal and written communication skills; Proven experience effectively prioritizing workload to meet deadlines and work objectives
Able to travel up to 25%
