Staff Attorney; Assistant/Associate General Counsel
 
The Assistant or Associate General Counsel will be expected to provide advice on a wide range of legal matters, with a primary, but not exclusive, focus on student affairs, including Title IX and other forms of discrimination, Clery, student conduct and discipline, FERPA, student organizations, Greek life, admissions, financial aid and disability issues. Over time, and depending on the successful candidate's background and interest, we would expect the individual also to take primary or secondary responsibility for other areas, which might include constitutional law, policy development, international activities, litigation, compliance, contracting, athletics, internal investigations, risk management and other higher education issues and matters. This job will be filled as a level 3, or level 4, depending upon the successful candidate's competencies, education, and experience. Typically requires a J.D. or L.L.B. from an ABA-accredited law school or higher plus five years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience for a level 3. Additional experience and/or education and competencies are required for higher level jobs. Preferred experience includes a J.D. degree from an ABA-accredited law school plus additional years of relevant experience. Applicants must be admitted to the practice of law in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania or be eligible for admission. The successful candidate must also demonstrate the highest level of integrity and professionalism, possess superior communication skills, have the demonstrated ability to work in a collegial and professional manner with peers and clients, have a record of academic and professional excellence, and have an interest in practicing higher education law in a general counsel's office of a major public university.
