IN-HOUSE/LEAD IP COUNSEL/LIFE SCIENCES

Global healthcare diagnostics technology leader seeks 8+ year patent attorney for broad-based HQ role as lead  IP counsel for global operations. Reporting to the General Counsel, this new IP Counsel will be intellectually curious and have the confidence and ability to interact with executives, engineers, scientists and other managers across the business in a collaborative, effective manner.  The IP Counsel will assume primary responsibility for: management and strategy of IP matters (including managing outside counsel); working intimately with R&D staff to ensure that inventions are reflected in patent prosecutions/filings; assessing commercial and strategic value of the Company’s IP portfolio; identifying gaps and areas of opportunity (offensive and defensive); working on due diligence projects; supporting and managing patent litigation matters; and advising the in-house legal team and senior management on IP matters. Qualified candidates must have: an undergraduate or graduate degree (or other training or experience) relevant to life sciences, chemical analysis or materials characterization; strong technological aptitude to learn and work with a range of technologies; USPTO admission and membership in good standing of a state bar; and experience gained in a law firm or in an in-house legal department (preferably a combination of both).
