Attorney

The New Jersey Turnpike Authority is seeking an Attorney at its headquarters inWoodbridge, NJ. The Attorney will serve as co-counsel and assistant legal advisor for the NJTA. This position reports to the Director of Law (General Counsel). The ideal candidate should have diversified legal experience and/or knowledge concerning the subject matters described below. The selected candidate shall take on other tasks as assigned by the Director of the Law. Additional duties can include providing legal advice and, as assigned, representation of the Authority including, but not limited to:
Assist the Director of Law in the provision of legal advice to commissioners, departments and division heads and other Authority personnel on legal questions related to their job duties and responsibilities

Review contracts,     MOAs, MOUs and claims prior to execution by Authority officials; negotiate     and settle contracts and civil and property damage claims by and against     Authority; Provide legal advice on OPRA, subpoena compliance, litigation     discovery and act as NJTA legal liaison with Courts, Attorney General’s     Office, MVC, DOT, GAU, Prosecutor’s Offices, local law enforcement and     regulatory agencies as assigned.

 

Review and provide     advice and as assigned, representation of the NJTA regarding insurance,     risk management, OCIP, and Disability and Worker’s Compensation matters

 

Review and provide     advice on real estate matters involving the NJTA and its operations and     construction and capital improvement projects

 

Represent Authority in     litigation as assigned by the Director of Law.

 

Prepare legal     documents as required, including position papers on legislation affecting     the Authority.

 

Provide legal advice     and representation on civil collection of unpaid tolls and fees and     related litigations.

 

As assigned by the     Director of Law, provide legal services in conjunction and coordination     with NJTA retained General Counsel and other retained law firms; oversee     and track litigations as directed.

 

Assist and provide legal     advice to the Human Resources Department in employee inquiries and     disciplines, as well as advice regarding LAD, EEO, SBE, WBE, Equal Pay Act     and ethics matters as assigned by the Director of Law.

 

Assist and provide legal     advice to the Procurements Department including, but not limited to,     public bidding documents, protests and matters involving SBE, WBE, and EEO     issues.

 

A high levelof discretion and confidentiality is required.

 

MinimumQualifications:

JurisDoctorate from an accredited law school.
Licenseto practice in the State of New Jersey with two (2 to five (5) years’experience with emphasis in laws governing public agencies, includingadministrative and civil law, with a minimum of two (2) years litigationexperience preferred.
Mustpossess a valid NJ Driver’s License.
