Labor & Employment Associate

The Los Angeles - Century City or San Francisco office of McGuireWoods seeks an Associate for the Labor & Employment Department. McGuireWoods’ clients include local, national and multinational employers ranging from Fortune 500 companies to small businesses and nonprofits. With more than 70 lawyers in the United States and Europe, our labor and employment team handles upwards of 4,000 employment-related matters each year. We counsel employers in every aspect of the employer/employee relationship, including federal, state and international law compliance; traditional labor issues; internal investigations; federal contracting; and executive compensation.
Recognition by Chambers USA in recent years for our labor and employment regional practices, including North Carolina and Virginia, plus nearly a dozen rankings for individual attorneys.
 
The ideal candidate would have at least 5 years of experience. The candidate must have a strong academic background and demonstrate top-notch legal research, analysis and writing abilities, including fluent working knowledge and understanding of California and federal court procedural and evidence rules. In addition the candidate, must have strong experience working on defense of wage and hour class actions, PAGA actions, or collective actions (such as discovery, witness interviews, motion practice and class certification) with partner and/or senior attorney oversight. The candidate must also have experience working on defense of single-plaintiff employment cases with partner and/or senior attorney oversight, experience taking and defending depositions, administrative hearings, and experience presenting oral arguments at state and federal trial court hearings. Appellate experience is also preferred, but not required. California bar is required.
