Associate Counsel - Legal and Labor Relations

We are seeking an experienced lawyer with specific expertise in labor relations. This position serves the Labor/Legal Department with the fulfilling of the mission of NFSA. This position reports to the Senior Vice President & General Counsel. The activities of NFSA's Labor/Legal Department impact approximately 40,000 tradespeople and their families nationwide.
The purpose of this position is to function within the Legal/Labor Department to assist with contract negotiations, management trustee responsibilities on various employee benefits funds, legal research and advice, organizational documentation, public policy and legislation review.
This position requires the delivery of high-quality products and services through strong writing and communication skills, strong attention to detail, a passion for labor relations and the ability to work with a variety of member and union personalities and styles. This individual has the opportunity to work in a professional work environment with various business owners, executives and other stakeholders to make a positive impact. This will require strong collaborative and listening skills, along with the ability to facilitate optimal consensus decisions.
Highlights of Specific Responsibilities include:

Serving as either primary spokesperson member of various teams which negotiate multi-employer collective bargaining agreements for NFSA members.
Assisting in the development of bargaining plans and strategies.
Developing strong working relationships with Association member contractors, union officials and members of the Association's Board of Directors.
Conducting research and drafting reports/statistical analysis in preparation for collective bargaining negotiations.
Serving as a fiduciary trustee on various Taft-Hartley pension, health and welfare, education, and other benefit funds.
Drafting provisions for and amendments to collective bargaining agreements.
Supporting member contractors with contract administration, grievance, arbitration, and NLRB issues.
Researching and drafting various other Association policies & procedures.

 
Qualifications:

Must be admitted to practice law in at least one state.
Minimum five years of employment experience in labor relations or labor law, in either a corporate law department or law firm setting.
Ability to travel, as necessary.
Excellent written, verbal communications skills, along with good computer literacy (i.e. Word, Excel, Google/Outlook, etc.).
Demonstrated interpersonal skills, professionalism, and ability to exercise sound judgment.
