The Houston office of Squire Patton Boggs has an immediate need for a bilingual (English/Portuguese) attorney with at least four years of related legal experience in Brazil to join our Corporate practice group on a full-time, temporary, hourly basis. The period is anticipated to last up to one year, but a longer term is possible.
Description:
This position offers you an opportunity to work closely with lawyers of the firm's Corporate Practice Group including the Chair of the Brazil Country Desk to represent the interests of international clients in matters relating to Latin America.
Responsibilities:
Draft, review, and negotiate commercial contracts under Brazilian law, including sales agreement, distribution, agency, procurement agreements, and services agreements.
Advise on legal issues involving Brazilian law, including regulatory, compliance, data privacy.
Demonstrates general commercial or functional knowledge across a sub discipline within the individual's specialty area(s), (e.g., general corporate law, compliance and regulatory, employment law, data privacy, contract management, and other resolutions specific to the oil & gas, chemical and consumer industry).
Job duties are varied and complex utilizing independent judgment.
Academic and Professional Qualifications:
At least 4 years of related legal experience in Brazil.
Background in drafting transactional documents and corporate law.
Admission to practice law in Brazil and in the United States (or qualified to sit for the Bar in the United States).
Professional Skills & Experience:
Bilingual (English/Portuguese) and Spanish is a plus.
Excellent legal skills and business judgment in areas of responsibility.
Proficient writing skills in English and Portuguese.
