Our client, a highly successful private investment company, is seeking to hire a Tax Controversy Counsel for their expanding operation. The ideal candidate will have 4+ years of tax controversy/tax litigation experience (with a law firm, accounting firm, IRS, or DOJ Tax) on complex civil disputes with the IRS. The hired attorney will be responsible for developing and coordinating strategies for the defense of multiple real estate partnerships in both the examination and litigation phases of the controversy. Candidates should have an extensive knowledge about, and experience dealing with, the IRS and Tax Court trial experience is required.
Initially, the hired attorney will primarily work as the lead attorney on several docketed cases to be litigated in the U.S. Tax Court, and the attorney will work as part of a small team of other tax controversy specialists handling cases at all stages of controversy with the IRS, including: IRS examinations, administrative appeals, and in litigation in the Tax Court and in the District Courts. This role will involve both direct representation of entities subject to IRS enforcement actions and working with outside legal counsel to coordinate the representation of related entities.
