CONTRACT JUDICIAL STAFF ATTORNEY (450020) - Position open until filled
Job Summary:
Conducts legal research, drafts court orders and memoranda and provides legal advice to a judge in the Fulton County Court System.

Assists the assigned judge in the management of cases including reviewing and analyzing filings and motions, hearings and judgements; facilitating orderly case management and court proceedings; prioritizing the flow of work; and drafting orders and other legal documents.
Develops or evaluates a strategy for handling legal cases or negotiations as assigned. Provides legal advice and opinions to judges and court staff. Performs in-depth analysis and research of legal matters.
Prepares legal summaries of facts and arguments for cases to be brought before the court. Organizes the presentation of legal cases. Drafts legal memoranda on court cases and specific points of law as required by assigned judge. Reviewslegal opinions and various legal publications for research purposes. Stays current on relevant laws, regulations, and court processes and procedures. Serves as a liaison between the Court and the public. Oversees a variety of functions betweencourt personnel, staff, and attorneys.Qualifications:Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:Requires knowledge of state, federal, and local laws related to the type of law practiced in the assigned department. County personnel regulations and procedures. Legal practices and procedures related to area of assignment. General officepractices, procedures, equipment, and technology.Requires skill in legal research. Drafting legal documents. Giving presentations. Identifying and investigating facts of a legal matter. Resolving problems using negotiation, arbitration, and mediation. Making decisions. Legal case management.Building sustainable working relationships with other County personnel, officials, and the public. Communicating effectively with coworkers, supervisor, and the public. Generating enthusiasm and support for program objectives.Education and Experience:Juris Doctorate Degree required; and one year of experience working in a court system or legal profession, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.Licensing Requirements:Member in good standing of the State Bar of Georgia. Other such memberships and licenses that may be required to perform the assigned tasks.Physical Requirements:Work is typically performed in an office-like environment.
May work in high conflict situations and with difficult, sometimes dangerous parties. Positions in this class typically require talking, hearing, seeing, sitting, standing, walking, bending,reaching, fingering, lifting, and carrying.
Sedentary Work: Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Sedentary work involves sitting most ofthe time.
