KBR-Centauri is looking for a Director, Legal to serve primarily as the business’s legal counsel and lead all aspects of Contract Administration. The position will also lead the Subcontracts, Procurement and Government Property management functions to support the business’s continued organic and acquisition driven growth.
Essential job duties:
The Director, Legal will report to the Vice President, Legal for KBR’s Government Solutions U.S. (GS US) business, and will serve as principal advisor on legal and contract-related matters to the KBR-Centauri executive management. The position will advise the KBR-Centauri business group on all aspects of U.S. government contracting, subcontracting and procurement, including related processes and compliance matters. The candidate selected for this position will also lead and manage a team of contracts and procurement professionals in the efficient, effective operation of a contracts and procurement department. The individual will participate as a member of the GS US senior leadership team within the Legal, Contracts & Procurement function, and as such, will collaborate with his/her peers in the other GS US businesses and the Vice President, Legal to ensure consistent, exemplary service across GS US operations.
The successful candidate will review, analyze, and approve significant or unique contract requirements and provisions to ensure compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and company policies, and to ensure identification of legal and business risks and appropriate mitigation actions. The role will also support proposal efforts and the negotiation of complex contracts, subcontracts and other agreements as necessary. The role will advise KBR-Centauri executive management on special contractual, regulatory, and legal matters and keep abreast of applicable laws, regulations (including FAR/DFARS) and industry practices and guidance. The role will also support government contracts-related audits and investigations, as well as internal audits and investigations affecting the KBR-Centauri business. The role will participate in bid protest decisions, and will oversee bid protest litigation, including management of outside legal counsel. The Director, Legal will also support merger/acquisition activities as needed.
The successful candidate will supervise, direct, and manage all contracts and subcontracts administration-related activities through all phases of the procurement lifecycle, including supporting pricing and proposals, negotiations, maintenance, and closeouts. The position will lead the development and implementation of streamlined, effective contracting and procurement policies, procedures, and tools in accordance with company objectives and requirements and industry best practices. The role will also be responsible for maintaining a government-approved purchasing system for the KBR-Centauri business. The role will monitor the quality of work performed by the contracts and procurement staff to ensure superior service to the KBR-Centauri business, and will provide the staff with the leadership, resources and training necessary to deliver that service. The Director, Legal will also be expected to build and maintain strong relationships with key government contracting officials, as well as internal clients and cross-functional peers across GS US.
Minimum Requirements:
The ideal candidate for the Director, Legal position will possess the following:
J.D. degree from an ABA accredited U.S. law school.
License in good standing to practice law in at least one U.S. state.
At least 8 years of legal experience in government contracting, with in-house experience being a plus.
Experience managing a contracts department within a government contractor organization.
In-depth knowledge of legal and regulatory requirements related to government contracting, including proposal preparation, contract terms, the FAR/DFARS, and other U.S. government procurement-related laws and regulations.
Experience in merger/acquisition due diligence and transactions.
Experience conducting or supporting legal investigations.
Ability to convey complex government contracting and legal concepts clearly.
Familiarity with employment and labor law.
Experience with prosecuting and defending bid protests and working with the DCAA and DCMA on cost and audit matters.
Experience mentoring government contracts professionals in negotiation of contract terms and identification and mitigation of terms that impose risk.
Strong business acumen and judgment.
