The New York City Department of Correction (DOC) is an integral part of the City’s evolving criminal justice system, participating in reform initiatives and strategies aimed to move the City towards a smaller jail system without compromising public safety.

DOC is seeking a talented EEO professional who will enforce these practices, the mission of Equal Employment Practices Commission as well as the City of New York’s Equal Employment Opportunity Policy; and who will, among other duties, be responsible for:
Supervising and directing the work of EEO staff, including the Disability Rights Coordinator and the Diversity Officer
Developing the Agency’s Diversity and Inclusion strategic plans
Formulating and implementing the Agency’s EEO policy and procedures and ensuring that all EEO policies and procedures are disseminated to all Agency staff
Ensuring effective fulfillment of the Agency’s EEO obligations as provided by the City Charter and other Federal, State and Local employment laws
Advising executive, managerial, and supervisory staff on EEO matters and meeting with them regularly to ensure that best practices are followed in connection with all employment decisions, including selection, transfers and promotions
Minimum Qualifications
Admission to the New York State Bar; and four years of recent full-time responsible, relevant, satisfactory legal experience subsequent to admission to any bar, eighteen months of which must have been in the supervision of other attorneys, in an administrative, managerial or executive capacity, or performing highly complex and significant legal work. Incumbents must remain Members of the New York State Bar in good standing for the duration of this employment.

Residency Requirement
New York City residency is generally required within 90 days of appointment. However, City Employees in certain titles who have worked for the City for two continuous years may also be eligible to reside in Nassau, Suffolk, Putnam, Westchester, Rockland, or Orange County.
