Job DescriptionLOCATION: PhiladelphiaFUNCTIONAL JOB TITLE: Litigation ParalegalEXEMPT/NON-EXEMPT STATUS: Non-ExemptBRIEF DESCRIPTION: The litigation paralegal furnishes legal support for multipleattorneys. The position reports to the supported attorneys, with a dotted line to theDirector of Human Resources and Administrative Manager.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:• Organize documents and coordinate document productions.Organizing, indexing and preparing documents for productions. Work withLitigation Support on electronic document productions. Set up and maintain fileswhich are organized chronologically, numerically and/or by subject matter. Workwith Litigation Support on electronic productions. Under the guidance of anattorney, categorize documents by subject matter, prepare a chronology of factsand create production charts.• Conduct various document searches and factual research.Create and maintain internal case databases, run searches on internal andexternal document databases and systems, cull relevant information from avariety of resources such as newspapers, magazines, libraries, case documentsand trade associations.• Prepare witness and matter materials for case preparation.Organize interview memos, digests and other relevant documents for attorneyreview and case preparation.• Prepare for depositions.Under attorney supervision, gather and prepare documents relevant to thedeponent, organize exhibits prior to deposition. Digest transcripts to summarizehighlights of a proceeding. Work with Litigation Support to load digital transcriptsand exhibits to Case Notebook software• Motion practice.Pull relevant documents, proofread papers, organize exhibits and createdocument indices in the preparation of motion filing.-2-• Perform court filings.Work with attorneys in the preparation and filing of all court documents. Create,bind and distribute both file and courtesy copies. Organize the briefs, exhibitsand appendices.• Act as liaison among various internal departments as well as with outsideagencies.Oversee the progress of documents through litigation support departments, ordertranscripts from reporting services, and fulfill requests from outside counsel andothers.• Prepare for and attend trials.Organize exhibits, files and all other supporting documents, coordinate trial setup and logistics, assist attorneys in the courtroom by taking notes, handlingexhibits, and marking documents referred to by counsel, assist in the preparationof witness testimony and serve as liaison between trial attorneys and in-housestaff.• Communicate telephonically, by email and other correspondence with clients andother external constituencies as well as others who work within the Firm.OTHER FUNCTIONS:• Performs other duties as required by position.• Takes part in training sessions as offered by the Firm and seeks education asneeded in order to perform required tasks.• Maintains files and prepares various reports as needed.REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS, ABILITIES, ORKNOWLEDGE:• Ability to communicate clearly, both orally and in writing.• High level of proficiency in Microsoft Office applications including MS Word, Excel,and Outlook• Ability to prioritize and organize multiple tasks.• Attention to detail.• Ability to operate effectively under pressure.• Understanding of legal terminology.• Problem solving ability.• Ability to deal discreetly with confidential information. -3-• High level of proficiency with eDiscovery tools including Relativity, Eclipse andthe like• Experience with CompuLaw a plusMINIMUM EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent.WORKING CONDITIONS AND SAFETY HAZARDS:• Occasional overtime work may be required throughout the year.• Works under frequent deadlines and time pressure.This job description does not list all the duties of the job.
