Associate Justice- Appellate Division, Palau Supreme Court

The Republic of Palau Judiciary is seeking applicants for one Associate Justice position who will be assigned to the Appellate Division of the Palau Supreme Court. Associate Justices of the Appellate Division are primarily responsible for deciding all appeals from all lower courts by applying Palauan law, which includes the Palau Constitution, statutes, case law, customary law, and United States common law when appropriate. Eligible applicants are those who have been admitted to practice law before the highest court in which they have been admitted for at least five (5) years preceding their appointment. The Judiciary prefers applicants with backgrounds in both criminal and civil law, who demonstrate strong research and writing skills. The Judiciary values superior work ethic and job performance, commitment to the law, and unimpeachable integrity in professional and ethical conduct. All applicants must disclose any disciplinary proceedings to which they have been subject. An Associate Justice receives a salary of approximately $85,000 (USD). For an off- island appointee and his or her dependents, the position includes free round-trip economy transportation and housing subsidies of up to $900.00 a month for a single person or $1,000.00 for a married couple and shipment of household and personal effects (up to $900 for a single Justice or $1,000.00 for a married couple, each way).
