Electric Energy Associate at K&L Gates LLP (Washington, D.C.)

The global law firm of K&L Gates seeks to hire an associate to join their Washington, D.C. office’s regulated electric power practice. Our regulated electric power practice encompasses many aspects of the regulation of the electric power industry, with a primary focus on the regulatory activities of the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission. Frequent issues addressed in our practice include mergers and acquisitions, market power, market manipulation, formula and other transmission rates, transmission cost allocation, Regional Transmission Organization tariff and governance matters, generator development and interconnection, and administrative and appellate litigation involving all of the above. Our regulated electric power practice is part of the K&L Gates comprehensive energy practice that encompasses more than 150 lawyers across the firm’s global platform working together to guide our clients through strategic decisions, policy initiatives, commercial transactions, project financing and development, regulatory proceedings and litigation.

The ideal candidate would have two to four years of experience practicing law, including one to two years of experience specifically focused on the regulated electric power industry. Additional prior experience in energy law, administrative law, or litigation would be helpful, but not required. A background in economics and/or finance would also be useful. The ideal candidate will have excellent analytical and writing skills, as well as a collegial and team-oriented approach toward problem-solving.
