Financial Services Policy/Regulatory Associate at K&L Gates LLP (Washington, D.C.)

The global law firm of K&L Gates seeks to hire immediately for its Washington, DC office an associate for its dynamic, active, growing Financial Services Policy/Regulatory practice with nationally recognized practices in public policy and financial services.

This position is responsible for legislative and regulatory activity pertaining to financial services, with a focus on of the Dodd-Frank Act and associated rulemakings (including Title VII (over-the-counter derivatives)). Duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Researching and drafting a variety of briefing materials, talking points, letters of support, testimony, statements for the record, comment letters, policy-related correspondence, and other items.
  • Monitoring, analyzing, and providing updates and memoranda on relevant legislative and regulatory developments.
  • Coordinating meetings with policymakers, including managing lobby days.
  • Assisting in developing advocacy strategy and key messages on client issues.
  • Communicating (written and oral) with internal team, clients, policymakers, and third parties.
  • Coordinating with internal team on client issues and responding to client requests.

Qualifications

  • Attorney, with 2-4 years of legal experience preferably in private practice
  • Previous governmental (Congress; Administration) or trade association experience helpful.
  • Knowledge of Dodd-Frank Act and associated rulemakings including Title VII (over-the-counter derivatives).
  • Strong research, analytical, evaluative, and constructive thinking skills, particularly the ability to distill complex issues.
  • Excellent communications skills (both oral and written).
  • Strong project management skills, with ability to organize, prioritize, and handle multiple projects on tight timeframes while being thorough and detail-oriented.
  • Ability to work effectively and collaboratively with others, particularly internal team.
